Oklahoma Institute for Child Advocacy launches Oklahoma’s Kid Governor® program

In spring 2022, Oklahoma Institute for Child Advocacy (OICA) partnered with The Connecticut Democracy Center to bring the award-winning Kid Governor® civics program to Oklahoma! For the past six years, OICA has sponsored or co-sponsored an Oklahoma’s Kid Governor program. Beginning with the 2022-23 school year, the program expanded to be a full Kid Governor® civics program for fifth graders across Oklahoma. “Beginning with the next Oklahoma Kid Governor, instead of only a few kids entering a competition, every Oklahoma fifth grader will have the opportunity to participate in a statewide election,” said Joe Dorman, OICA’s CEO. “Even better, Oklahoma’s teachers will have access to an array of materials to help students learn the importance of democracy and the role they can play in it.”

Oklahoma’s Kid Governor® is a national award-winning civics program led by Oklahoma Institute for Child Advocacy and created by The Connecticut Democracy Center. The program is presented with major funding and partnership support from CT Humanities and the Gawlicki Family Foundation, and in partnership with the Connecticut Council for the Social Studies.
