Kid Governor’s Mental Health Awareness

Kid Governor Mila presented Youth Mental Health, as her platform in November 2022. The program fulfilled the first point of her platform: Educate Oklahoma students about the signs of anxiety and depression on April 7, 2023.

This interview featured Oklahoma’s Kid Governor Mila and school counselor, Letisha LeBlanc from Okmulgee Public Schools. Mrs. Letisha Stovall LeBlanc is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who lives in Okmulgee, OK, with her husband and two children. She was born and raised in Kentucky. Letisha received her Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies from Centre College in 1999 and went on the earn her Master’s of Science in Social Work from the University of Kentucky in 2006. Letisha currently works in Okmulgee Public Schools though the State Counselor Corps Grant Initiative. Letisha feels passionately about working to provide access to equal resources for children, youth, and families. She provides trauma and sensory sensitive clinical services as well. She is also certified in AutPlay Therapy, Therapeutic Art Intervention, and Behavior Intervention. Letisha enjoys traveling, spending time outdoors, exploring new places, and making memories with family and friends.

OKKG Mila also had the opportunity to interview Representative Jeff Boatman and his work with House Bill 1568.

Representative Jeff Boatman was elected to serve House District 67 in 2018 and proudly serves portions of Bixby and Tulsa. Boatman, who holds a master’s degree in Christian Counseling, is deeply passionate about mental health resources for Oklahomans.

In 2021, Rep Boatman coauthored HB 1568, Maria’s Law, along with Senator John Haste. Under HB 1568, beginning with the 2022-23 school year, the State Board of Education would require all schools to include instruction in mental health as part of any health education curriculum, with an emphasis on the interrelation of physical and mental well-being.

OKKG Mila O’Brien continued her search to speak to legislators about Youth Mental Health. She also had the opportunity to speak to Oklahoma Representative Brian Hill.

Representative Brian Hill has served House District 47, which covers Mustang, Oklahoma City, and Tuttle, since 2018. A business man, public speaker, former youth pastor, author and entrepreneur, Hill continues to contribute to several business in addition to his time at the Capitol. He also is on the board of several local non-profit organizations.
